Amos 7:1
Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings. Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
Amos 7 belongs to a prophecy to the northern kingdom delivered during the reign of Jeroboam II after his military successes. Amos was a humble herdsman and fruit gardener from Tekoa. He was sent to condemn Israel's idolatry and depravity.
The verse means the Lord directly showed Amos what to declare to Israel and Judah. God thereby gave a humble herdsman a decided message to warn the wicked kingdoms to turn from sins, put away idols, and worship God. He told of pestilence and sure destruction because their doings were offensive to God. He delivered it in simple, straightforward speech rich in rural figures, presenting it as what the Lord Jehovah had shown him, and faithfully pressed it home even when opposed.
