Amos Rejoices Over the Restored Harvestby emmanuel_higgins

Amos 9:13

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.

The days foretold are days of extraordinary abundance, when harvest follows harvest so quickly that the plowman overtakes the reaper and the treader of grapes overtakes him who sows seed, while the mountains drop sweet wine and all the hills melt and yield plentifully. They are the days when God brings His people Israel back from captivity to rebuild the ruined cities and live in them, to plant vineyards and gardens and to eat of their fruit and drink of their wine. Those restored are to be planted securely upon their God-given land, never to be pulled up again.

In the closing work planting and reaping overlap in the same way, so that those who sow the seed of truth are overtaken by those gathering its harvest and the next stage of the work begins before the previous one is finished. That final ingathering will bring thousands rapidly to see, recognize and accept the truth at the end, even at the eleventh hour, even in a day, in a swift and unexpected movement to the truth. These rapid conversions will surprise the church because they come unexpectedly. God alone will receive the glory for them. In that final work divine power joins human effort through God's Spirit, and the work is cut short unexpectedly.
