Amos 9:8
Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
The verse is a warning to the ten tribes in their apostasy about their coming captivity. The eyes of the Lord God upon the sinful kingdom mean that God watches His impenitent people Israel with the clearly revealed purpose to destroy the sinful kingdom from off the face of the earth, yet He will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob.
The announced judgment meant destruction and captivity for Israel, though its execution was delayed for a time. Prosperity under Jeroboam II did not change the hearts of the impenitent. Israel was eventually carried away from its land.
Israel will be sifted among all nations like corn sifted in a sieve, yet not the least true grain will fall to the earth, so the faithful will not be lost. All the sinners of His people who say evil shall not overtake them and deny that judgment and disaster are coming will die by the sword.
