Colossians 2:11
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
In Him believers receive a spiritual circumcision made without hands, which is the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. Those who trust in the Lord Jesus and are in union with Him are complete in Him who is the head of all principality and power. This circumcision of Christ is an inward and complete work in which His Spirit takes possession of the mind, eyes, heart, soul, and strength.
It belongs to receiving Christ Jesus the Lord and walking in Him rooted and built up and established in faith with thanksgiving, while refusing philosophy and vain deceit after human tradition and worldly rudiments. It is joined to being buried with Him in baptism and risen with Him through faith in the working of God who raised Him from the dead, and to being dead in sins and made alive together with Him with all trespasses forgiven. This union fulfills the pledge made with God at baptism and brings clear and decided victories in every line. It calls to a new life that rejects worldly ways and lives in Christ.
The chapter teaches the blessings of the gospel and the believer's transformation in Christ, where true conversion is the Holy Spirit's work on the character and the truth sanctifies believers unto Christian obedience and a life of faith that works through love and purifies the soul. It is a practical truth every believer in the church must heed, meaning believers keep individual holiness and consecration in view and through the sanctification of the truth become self-denying and self-sacrificing, abounding in works of benevolence to uplift others with thankful hearts continually overflowing in blessing like living water springing up into everlasting life. The verse is part of a treasure house of encouragement to be read prayerfully and carefully for understanding, holding rich, full, abundant and assuring promises of God to be received. It shows what Christ is to believers and what they may be to Him as His helping hand, meaning that turning from Christ to humanity for help is folly. When Jesus is appreciated the salvation of God is seen and there is power, but treating the Saviour indifferently, closing the door against the divine Helper, and looking to man for guidance leaves no power.
