Paul in Chains Gives a Letter to Tychicus and Onesimusby emmanuel_higgins

Colossians 4:8

Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;

Paul sent Tychicus as his messenger to the believers at Colosse, entrusted with carrying his communications to the churches, including communities he and Paul had visited together. He was sent for the same purpose of finding out the estate and condition of the believers and of making known Paul's own circumstances so as to comfort and encourage their hearts.

Onesimus went with Tychicus to Colosse after his conversion. He was returning to Philemon, the master whom he had wronged, to face and make right the wrong he had done. To go back in this way was a severe test, yet he faithfully accepted the duty laid upon him.
