Daniel 10:14
Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.
A heavenly messenger was sent to Daniel to make him understand what would befall his people in the latter days, with a vision reaching far into the future over a long period to a distant time. He came in answer to Daniel's earnest seeking with prayer, fasting, confession and humbling of soul, whose words were heard from the first day he set his heart to understand. Though heard at once, the messenger was withstood twenty-one days by the prince of Persia until Michael came to help him, showing that God's work meets powerful spiritual opposition that can hinder and retard it unless His workers rely on divine guidance and stand firmly together. Daniel fell helpless before the glory revealed and had to be touched and strengthened to bear and understand it, for heavenly light is given as men are able to receive it, even as divinity took humanity that humanity might endure it. Because the prophecy was sealed until the time of the end and is now in process of fulfillment, God will make known to His faithful what shall be in the last time, and this calls for deep earnest study and prayer and searching of the Scriptures rather than contentment with surface truths.
Angel's Visit and Vision
A ministering angel came to Daniel in vision to bring a communication from God to make him understand what would befall his people in the latter days. The visit was heaven's answer to earnest seeking to understand, and a messenger was sent to explain the vision and to strengthen Daniel to receive it. The angel came in answer to prayer, for from the first day Daniel set his heart to understand his words were heard.
The vision was given by the Hiddekel, by the River Hiddekel, and it came direct from God especially for the last days. Its light concerned events in the latter days and what would happen to Daniel's people. The Son of God came with another heavenly messenger to teach Daniel what would take place in the latter days, after Daniel sought further understanding of subjects not yet fully explained.
The words for many days mean the vision reaches many days into the future, extending over a long period to a distant future far into the future. It was to make understood what shall befall God's people in the latter days. Daniel's prophecies were not fully understood in his lifetime, for their words were sealed until the time of the end, when they would be understood.
That heavenly light about what would happen to Daniel's people in the latter days was intended for future ages and for those living in that time, including the time in which the vision is being applied. The vision received by the Hiddekel is now in process of fulfillment, with all the events it foretold soon to come to pass.
Prayer, Opposition, and Strength
The angel's coming to make Daniel understand what would befall his people in the latter days was the answer to earnest seeking with prayer and fasting and affliction of soul. That seeking included tears and confession and humiliation, with humility and self-denial and chastening of himself before God to understand. From the first day he set his heart to understand his words were heard, which proved he did not seek God for nothing. God sent a messenger to explain the vision and to strengthen Daniel to receive it.
Though heard from the first day, the angel was withstood one and twenty days by the prince of the kingdom of Persia until Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help him while he remained with the kings of Persia. This shows that God's messengers face powerful spiritual foes set to oppose the Lord's work. Division of forces and withdrawing at the time of hardest battle hinders and greatly retards the work God purposed to be done. Workers therefore need tact, must renounce dependence on worldly wisdom, rely in faith on divine guidance, and bind their interests firmly together.
Daniel could not endure the glory revealed to him and fell helpless, and the angel touched him to strengthen him and help him hear. The angel told him he was greatly beloved and gave him skill and understanding, appearing to him as a man so he could bear the presence. His experience shows that revelation had to be presented in a way he could bear.
Human beings cannot endure heavenly glory in its full brightness, so God's light is given as people are able to receive it. For this reason Christ came in humanity, and divinity took humanity upon Him that humanity might touch humanity. If He had come in any other way as an angel or in power humanity could not have endured it. This shows the wisdom and knowledge of God in laying the plan that Christ should come as a man, the Prince of Life, to dispute the power of the prince of darkness.
Earnest Study for Last Days
Heavenly instruction was given to make understood what shall befall God's people in the latter days, in a vision reaching many days into the future to a distant future. The verse calls ministers and brethren who feel the right burden to refuse to be content with a few surface truths and to sink the shaft deep with the spirit Daniel possessed, giving deep, earnest study rather than a superficial approach to truth. It demands earnest prayer that truth be stamped indelibly upon the heart so the entire man with all his ways is brought into conformity to the truth, with no frivolous spirit and no cheap, superficial sanctification spoken from unsanctified lips and coming from hearts destitute of purity, consecration, and wholehearted surrender to God.
God will make known to His faithful ones what shall be in the last time. The world is standing upon the borders of the greatest event in the world's history, when the papacy will appear in its power. Satan must not have power over the people of God to cause them to sleep, so all must now arouse and search the Scriptures. The word of the Lord is to come to His people in power.
