Daniel 10:21
But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince. But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
This verse belongs to the vision Daniel received by the Hiddekel, in which ministering angels came to Daniel with a communication from God. Daniel's earnest prayer, fasting, confession, and humiliation had not been in vain, for his prayer was heard. Heavenly help is given in response to prayer, and Daniel received that help without exalting himself. The heavenly messenger promises to show Daniel that which is noted in the scripture of truth, meaning truth recorded in Scripture.
The promise is given amid conflict in which the messenger returns to fight with the prince of Persia and the prince of Grecia shall come, with none holding with him except Michael your prince. Michael is Daniel's prince who stands with Gabriel and God's messenger as the sole heavenly ally in these things. Michael is Christ, showing Christ's authority and support in the heavenly conflict, who came to Gabriel's help and remained with the kings of Persia, holding the powers in check and giving right counsel against evil counsel.
The very highest angels in the heavenly courts are appointed to work out prayers ascending to God for the advancement of God's cause amid conflict with Satanic powers. Each angel has his particular post of duty which he is not permitted to leave for any other place, because leaving would give the powers of darkness an advantage in the conflict over kings and rulers. The verse shows a wonderful and close connection between the universe of heaven and this world, with heavenly powers acting in connection with earthly events. Heavenly agencies work on the minds of kings and rulers while satanic agencies are at work on their minds at the same time.
The verse belongs to Daniel's prophecies about mysteries of ages to come, which were not fully understood even by Daniel. Parts were sealed until the time of the end, when Daniel was promised he would stand in his lot, and that vision's foretold events are now in process of fulfillment and will soon come to pass. That which is noted in the scripture of truth revealed to Daniel was afterward complemented by the revelation given to John on the isle of Patmos, so the books of Daniel and Revelation belong together, should be carefully perused, and carry forward to the last scenes of this earth's history. The account shows that heavenly agents face hindrances before God's purpose is fulfilled. Satan continually seeks to block the way so that truth shall be bound about by human devising, and no human eloquence in strongly set forth human opinions can change the working of satanic agencies.
The verse describes God's care for His cause and people and the heavenly work that supports those laboring to bring religious light amid opposition and persecution. Those who have light and knowledge are in the greatest danger unless they constantly consecrate themselves to God, humbling self and realizing the peril of the times.
