Angel Tells Daniel to Seal the Bookby UpliftBiblestudies

Daniel 10:7

And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

The verse belongs to the account in Daniel 9 and 10 in which ministering angels came to Daniel to give him in vision a communication from God, received directly from God by the Hiddekel while he was in Babylonian captivity where God made known His mind and will to him. Before the vision Daniel had fasted and afflicted his soul and prayed most earnestly with tears and confession and humiliation, and he did not do so in vain, for his prayer was heard. Daniel alone saw the vision, for the men who were with him did not see it, but a great shaking fell upon them so that they fled to hide themselves.

Together with the next verse it shows Daniel losing his strength with his healthy appearance turning to decay and corruption. The scene belongs to a conflict in which good and evil angels take an active part in earthly affairs. The verse belongs to the prophecies of Daniel 7-12 that reveal mysteries about future ages. Those prophecies were not fully understood even by Daniel and were sealed until the closing period of world history.

What Daniel saw by the river about what would transpire in the latter days was light given especially for the last days and for future ages reaching to the very time now living, and the vision is now in process of fulfillment with all its foretold events soon to come to pass. The experience illustrates that the more clearly people see Christ's greatness, glory, and purity, the more clearly they recognize their own weakness and imperfection, and those who see themselves in this way do not claim to be sinless.
