Daniel 6:24
And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
Darius the Median, after taking the throne formerly held by Babylonian rulers, set one hundred and twenty princes over the kingdom and three presidents over them, with Daniel first, and Daniel was preferred above them because an excellent spirit was in him, so that the king thought to set him over the whole realm. The honors bestowed on Daniel excited the jealousy of the leading men, and though they sought occasion for complaint against him they could find none, for he was faithful and neither error nor fault was found in him. Daniel held to principle and integrity in worshiping the true God despite the decree, and God did not forget him but delivered him, when Jesus, the Commander of the heavenly host, sent His angel and gave angels as companions to stop the mouths of the hungry lions. So Daniel continued in prayer in peace in the den while all heaven watched to see if he would be faithful, and the king brought him out with honors.
After that deliverance the king commanded that the men who had accused Daniel be brought and cast into the den of lions with their children and their wives, and the lions had the mastery of them and broke all their bones in pieces before they reached the bottom of the den. The verse shows retribution for the plot: the men who plotted Daniel's destruction were themselves destroyed, their scheme to destroy Daniel brought ruin on them, and the human agents employed through envy and jealousy were doomed to perish in the terrible manner they had plotted for Daniel. The king saw that the real object of the accusers was to rid Daniel of his power, and he was wroth and destroyed the enemies of Daniel. A ruler's encounter with God's delivering power in this episode could lead him to proclaim God's supremacy.
Daniel's deliverance teaches that God's children are to remain faithful in trial as in prosperity, with the heart stayed upon God and faith grasping unseen, eternal realities. Satan and his evil angels had stirred up the presidents and princes through envy and jealousy to make Daniel's faithfulness the cause of his destruction, but they were defeated and enraged, proving that the prayer of faith is the great strength of the Christian and will assuredly prevail against Satan.
