Daniel 7:22
Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom. Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
The verse belongs to the prophecy of the four beasts, which represent the successive empires of Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome. Those beasts arise from the union of church and state and cruelly crush those who oppose them. The little horn loses its dominion at the end of the 1260 days, which was fulfilled when Berthier entered Rome on February 10, 1798 and the Pope was captured on February 15.
The persecution of the saints by the horn ends when the Ancient of days comes, when judgment is given in their favor and they finally possess the kingdom, belonging to the sequence of Christ's return, the harvest of the earth, the deliverance and resurrection of God's people, and the final judgment. When the Ancient of days comes, judgment is entrusted to the saints during the thousand years after Christ's second coming, between the first and second resurrections. During that time the righteous reign with Christ as kings and priests and, united with Christ, judge the wicked by comparing their deeds with the Bible and determining the suffering and punishment each must receive.
The verse is part of the prophecies of Daniel that are to be studied carefully and understood in relation to prophetic history. Those prophecies portray events leading to the close of earth's history. Historical events show their fulfillment.
