Daniel 8:15

And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

This moment belongs to the vision Daniel received in 553 B.C. It stands within the prophecies of Daniel 7-12, which were not fully understood even by Daniel himself. That vision left the 2300-day period unexplained, and Daniel mistakenly thought it would end with Israel's seventy years of captivity, and this misunderstanding led him to pray for Jerusalem and its ruined sanctuary.

The symbols of the chapter describe Rome, with the little horn referring to Rome rather than to Antiochus Epiphanes. Its prophetic periods are reckoned from 457 B.C. and are connected with the prophetic periods in Daniel 9. The light of the vision came directly from God and was given especially for the last days, and the events foretold in the visions associated with the Ulai and the Hiddekel were then in process of fulfillment and would soon come to pass.
