Daniel 8:18
Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright. Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
Daniel lay with his face toward the ground in a deep sleep while the heavenly speaking continued, until he was touched and set upright again. The vision was more than he could then bear, so that he fainted and was sick for several days. Because of that overwhelmed condition the whole vision was not explained to him at that time.
The verse belongs to the wonderful prophecies of Daniel 7-12, a vision from God given to Daniel as His ambassador as a revelation of the mysteries of ages to come. Even Daniel himself did not fully understand these prophecies, and it was not given him to understand all that God had revealed of the divine purpose. These prophecies were to be shut up and sealed until the time of the end. The vision's message was given especially for the last days, and the events it foretold are in the process of fulfillment and will soon come to pass.
Before Daniel's life labors closed he was given the blessed assurance that he would rest till the end and then stand in his lot and place at the end of the days in the closing period of this world's history.
