Daniel Sees the Ram and the Goatby MarkWilson

Daniel 8:2

And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

In vision Daniel was at Shushan in the palace, in the province of Elam, and by the river Ulai. The vision was given in the third year of Belshazzar, B.C. 553. It belongs to the revelations of the mysteries of ages to come given to Daniel as God's ambassador and recorded in chapters seven to twelve.

The prophecy of Daniel 8 includes the symbol of the little horn, whose specifications apply to Rome and not to Antiochus Epiphanes. The vision contained an unresolved time period, the 2300 days, which Daniel mistakenly thought would end with the seventy years of Israel's captivity, and this led him to pray for Jerusalem and its desolate sanctuary. The vision's prophetic periods are reckoned from 457 B.C., a date supported by historical and chronological evidence.

The revelations were not fully understood even by Daniel himself and were not given to be fully understood at that time, but were to be shut up and sealed even to the time of the end. The visions received by the Ulai and the Hiddekel, and the light given to Daniel from God, were given especially for the last days, and the events they foretold are now in process of fulfillment and will soon be complete. Daniel was given the blessed assurance that at the end of the days, in the closing period of this world's history, he would rest and stand in his lot and place.
