Daniel 8:25
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Daniel 8:25 belongs to the wonderful prophecies recorded in Daniel 7-12. It is part of a vision Daniel received directly from God as His ambassador to reveal the mysteries of ages to come. Its full meaning was not understood even by Daniel himself, for like the rest of his prophetic writings it was shut up and sealed until the time of the end. It belongs to the end of the days, the closing period of this world's history, when Daniel after resting will again stand in his lot and place.
The prophetic periods of Daniel 8, in which the verse stands, are tied to historical and chronological evidence pointing to 457 B.C. as the proper starting point for reckoning them. The verse belongs to the prophecy of the little horn, which is Rome, not Antiochus Epiphanes, the power that followed the four Greek kingdoms. In magnifying itself in its heart, that power magnified itself against Jesus, the Prince of princes and Prince of the host. Its end, to be broken without hand, is linked to the stone cut out without hands in Daniel 2 which destroys the kingdoms represented by the image. The events foretold in the vision are in process of fulfillment and will soon come to pass.
