Daniel Sees the Ram and the GoatBible World

Daniel 8:4

I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

Daniel 8:4 belongs to the wonderful prophecies of Daniel 7-12 given to Daniel as God's representative to reveal the mysteries of future ages. Its prophetic subject is Rome rather than Antiochus Epiphanes. The ram's pushing actions are treated as already explained within Daniel 8 itself. What was left unexplained in the vision was the 2,300-day period, and the later explanation in Daniel 9 does not revisit the ram but resolves that remaining time element.

The chapter contains a prophetic period whose historical and chronological reckoning begins in 457 B.C. Its full meaning was sealed until the time of the end and was not understood even by Daniel himself, but the seal is removed in the closing period of this world's history. The events it foretells are in process of fulfillment and will soon come to pass. At the end of the days Daniel himself will rest and then rise to receive his assigned place.
