Daniel Sees the Ram and the Goat at SunsetBible World

Daniel 8:5

And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

The he-goat from the west belongs to a vision given directly by God as part of the wonderful prophecies of Daniel 7-12 that reveal the mysteries of ages to come. Within that vision the symbols of the ram, the goat, and the little horn were explained to Daniel. Its symbols are applied to Rome rather than to Antiochus Epiphanes, with no separate explanation made of the goat itself or of its notable horn.

The part of chapter 8 left unexplained was the 2300-day time period. The verse was not fully understood even by Daniel himself and was shut up and sealed until the time of the end. The chronological periods of this prophetic vision are reckoned from 457 B.C.

In the closing period of this world's history its sealed words are to be unsealed. Its events belong to prophecies now being fulfilled and soon to come to pass. Daniel was given assurance that at the end of the days he would rest and then stand in his lot and place.
