Deuteronomy 10:10
And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee. And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee.
Moses stayed in the mount a second period of forty days and forty nights after the first tables were broken over the golden calf, when he had hewed a second set of tables and taken them up as God commanded. At the end of that second period he received again from the Lord the tables of stone with a second copy of the law written thereon. This gives the Sabbath of the Lord, with the other precepts, the honor of having been once publicly proclaimed by the voice of God and twice written upon tables of stone by the finger of the Law-giver. The verse belongs to the account in which Moses placed the two tables in the ark and placed the ark in the Most Holy Place of the typical sanctuary. That act began a ministration that was carried forward through the entire Old Testament period, in which the Levitical order of priesthood was set apart to minister before that ark while the typical sanctuary continued.
