Deuteronomy 10:11

And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them.

At the end of the second period of forty days Moses prepared new stone tablets and received them again from the Lord with a second copy of His law written on them, God writing on them the words that had been on the first tablets. Moses placed the two tables of the law in the ark and placed the ark in the Most Holy Place of the typical sanctuary, with the Levitical priesthood set apart to minister before that ark while the typical sanctuary continued, carrying forward through the whole Old Testament period the ministration begun when he brought the law down to the people. That ministration to sinful Israel could only exhibit guilt, condemnation and death, showing them exposed to the just penalty of the law with no promise of pardon in itself.

The verse falls within Moses' review of the law for Israel's new generation in his farewell addresses, which look ahead to God leading Israel into the land. The verse marks the beginning of Moses' third discourse, which runs from Deuteronomy 10:10 to 12:32. Obedience is presented as the condition for obtaining that land.
