Deuteronomy 12:26

Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take, and go unto the place which the LORD shall choose:

Deuteronomy 12:26 stands in the fifth and last book of the Pentateuch. That book is made up mainly of three addresses given by Moses just before his death. It belongs to the second section in chapters 5 to 26, which reviews the law for the new generation. From that review the book is named Deuteronomy, meaning second law or duplicate of the law. Within that review it falls in the portion covering chapters 10 to 13.

It is one of the laws Moses recalled to Israel before they crossed the Jordan, rehearsing God's laws to remind them of their importance and the need to keep them. Its chapter shows that Israel's broad permission to eat what they desired was limited by the specific prohibition of unclean animals in the same context, so the general permission did not include foods expressly forbidden.
