Deuteronomy 13:5

And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

Deuteronomy 13:1-5 sets forth God's commandments as the test of character by which every prophet and every teaching is proved, dividing truth from error. Sanctifying truth under that test is known by obedience to the law, not by emotion or feeling. Anyone who leads souls away from obedience to the commandments fails this test.

Keeping the Father's commandments as Christ did is the perfect pattern of meeting this test. The verse therefore calls believers to keep the commandments from the heart, including studying and carrying out in life the principles of the Sabbath commandment placed in the bosom of the law. Such obedience puts one right with God and lays the soul on a sure foundation to stand in the trials that shall try all upon the earth, unto eternal life.
