Deuteronomy 15:6
For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee. For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.
In its setting of the seventh-year release, the promise follows the release of debts owed by fellow Israelites and is tied to their inheritance in the land God gives them. It is a conditional promise that if the people carefully obey God's commandments, God will bless them as He promised with prosperity. So blessed, they will lend to many nations without borrowing, and will rule over nations rather than be ruled by them.
The promise reassures God's people that generosity toward the poor, joined with obedience to God's commandments, will not leave them in want. In its chapter context it calls God's people to show mercy, compassion, and tenderness in financial dealings with one another. Pressing a brother who cannot pay what he owes is wrong, and doing right by him is for one's eternal interest.
