Deuteronomy 18:9
When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
When Israel came into the land which God gave them, they were not to learn to do after the abominable religious customs of the nations there. Those abominations included divinations and superstitious practices, such as those of the Philistines. Israel was not to seek guidance from diviners or soothsayers, for God would make His will known through His appointed prophets.
The command requires God's people to keep a separate distinction from the world, not stepping even an inch toward learning and doing the abominations of the unbelieving nations around them. Like ancient Israel, God's people who follow the world's fashions and customs follow the nations' abominations, mixing with the world, losing simplicity and the marks of peculiarity, and making it impossible to honor God. Wearing hoops is one of those forbidden abominations, an indecent and shameful fashion that God's people should neither adopt nor encourage, and neither convenience nor the example of others makes following it right.
