Deuteronomy 2:28
Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet; Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
The verse records a friendly, peaceful message in which Moses asks leave for Israel to pass through Amorite territory on the way to the Jordan. The appeal was addressed to Sihon, the Amorite king. The message was sent to him at his capital. Israel promised to keep strictly to the highway without turning to the right or left, traveling only along the road on foot. Israel offered to pay with money for meat and food to eat and for water to drink.
The peaceful request to pass straight through was refused and met with an army gathered for battle. Israel then crossed the river Arnon, advanced against the Amorites, defeated them in battle, and took possession of the country of the Amorites. The victory was won by the Captain of the Lord's host fighting for His people. The same victory would have been given to Israel thirty-eight years before if Israel had trusted Him.
