Deuteronomy 2:34
And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain: And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
Israel had turned northward toward the promised land after passing to the south of Edom and crossing the brook Zered to the east of Moab. In that march the command was not to distress the Moabites nor to contend with them in battle, because God had given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession. The same direction was given concerning the Ammonites as descendants of Lot.
Then Israel crossed the river Arnon and advanced against the Amorites, defeated them in battle, and soon took possession of the whole country of the Amorites. The victory was won by the Captain of the Lord's host vanquishing the enemies for His people. That same divine power would have given Israel victory thirty-eight years earlier had Israel trusted Him.
