Deuteronomy 2:36
From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us: From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
Before this declaration Israel had passed to the south of Edom, then turned northward over a vast elevated plain where cool breezes refreshed them after the parched valley, crossed the brook Zered, and passed to the east of Moab. On that march they were commanded not to distress the Moabites nor contend with them in battle, because Ar had been given to the children of Lot. The same direction was given concerning the Ammonites, since they also were descendants of Lot.
The verse describes the next movement, crossing the river Arnon and advancing against the Amorites. In that advance Israel won the battle and soon took possession of the whole country of the Amorites, from Aroer by the Arnon to Gilead, with no city too strong for them because the Lord delivered all to them. That victory was gained not by Israel's own strength but by the Captain of the Lord's host, who vanquished the enemies of His people. That same divine power would have done the same for Israel thirty-eight years before, if Israel had trusted in Him.
