Deuteronomy 23:8

The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.

The law barred the offspring of the people who came up with Israel out of Egypt from entering the congregation of the Lord until the third generation. That exclusion applied to the descendants of the Egyptians, withholding full admission to the Israelite community and to the Lord's congregation for that time. Because of this restriction, the man of mixed parentage, born to an Egyptian father and an Israelite mother, was forbidden to pitch his tent in the part of the camp occupied by Israelites.
