Farmer Presents Firstfruits Basket to the Priestby emmanuel_higgins

Deuteronomy 26:4

And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.

The priest receives the basket from the worshiper's hand and sets it down before the altar of the Lord. That action belongs to the presenting of the firstfruits, in which the giver brings the produce in worship before God. The basket is an offering of gratitude, acknowledging His goodness and provision. It also expresses thanks for His deliverance and publicly confesses that the land and all it yields come from Him.

The offering is practical worship, joined to remembrance of God's gifts and to care for the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. It is acceptable only when brought with reverence and gratitude. Any offering brought in self-sufficiency, as though God were indebted to the giver, is rejected. The directions surrounding it are principles of God's kingdom, given for the people's present and future good, so that obedience brings blessing and disobedience brings a curse.
