All Israel Stands Before the LORD to Covenantby emmanuel_higgins

Deuteronomy 29:12

That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:

This text stands within the account of Israel renewing its covenant with God. It portrays the whole nation stepping together into binding agreement and solemn oath with the Lord, from its leaders and family heads to its households and little ones, along with the outsider dwelling in its midst. That oath was pledged to them on that very day. Its aim was that God might confirm Israel as His own people and stand to them as their God, fulfilling what He had promised to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. In this it presses for that covenant with Him to be made new and for hardness and self-willed stubbornness of heart to be put away.
