Deuteronomy 29:20
The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven. The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
The Lord will not spare the guilty man, but His anger and jealousy will smoke against him, all the curses written in the book will lie upon him, and the Lord will blot out his name from under heaven. It is spoken to the man who turns away from the Lord to serve other gods yet blesses himself in his heart and assures himself that he will have peace, warning him that he will not escape punishment. Its surrounding warning makes idolatry and forsaking the covenant the cause that brings the curses upon the land. The same unsparing judgment falls on the one who rebels against God, including disregard for His law and His Sabbath.
That rebellion grows where parents fail to teach their children obedience to God's commandments. The warning applies to those who persist in drunkenness, showing that God will not spare the drunkard. It also reaches those who allow the sale of liquor that destroys health and reason and leads to violence and sin, and cities that reopen liquor saloons will be held accountable to God at the judgment.
