Deuteronomy 29:22

A later generation of Israelite children rising up afterward, together with a foreigner arriving from a distant country, will look upon the stricken land and take notice of its plagues and its sicknesses as afflictions laid upon it by the Lord. Their seeing of that desolation will move them to inquire into its cause and to ask why such judgments have fallen there. The answer is that the calamities came because the people abandoned His covenant. They turned aside to serve and worship other gods, and for that unfaithfulness the judgments were brought upon the land.
