Deuteronomy 29:5

And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

These words belong to what Moses spoke to Israel on the occasion when they renewed their covenant with the Lord. He led them through the wilderness for forty years to separate them from Egyptian idolatry and the idolatry of other nations. Though Moses was their visible leader, God's presence guided them and held them accountable when they rebelled. During those forty years God sustained Israel so that their clothes did not wear out and their shoes did not wear out on their feet.

That preservation illustrates that God still cares for His children and provides for their needs as a continuing care. The verse displays God's blessings together with the lesson that Israel needed willing obedience rather than doing as they pleased. It is to be studied as a call to renew the covenant with God and to remove stubbornness of heart. Those who stay in right relation to Him and commune with Him daily may be taught by Him and receive His blessing.
