Deuteronomy 3:24

O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

The verse is Moses' acknowledgment that God had begun to show him His greatness and His mighty hand through His works, confessing with confidence that no god in heaven or on earth can do works equal to His works or display might equal to His might. It introduces his earnest appeal to that power, asking to be allowed to go over and see and enter the good land beyond the Jordan, Canaan, the promised land. That plea follows God's sentence barring him for his sin at Kadesh at the rock, where in disobedience he failed to give God the glory for bringing water from the rock.

Though he pleaded earnestly, even confessing his sin and asking pardon with deep repentance and mourning on the mount, the request was steadfastly refused and did not change God's decision. He must bear the penalty of his sin and would not enter the land nor lead Israel into it, a punishment he humbly accepted. The refusal was because his transgression at Kadesh was open and marked disobedience that set a harmful example before Israel, showing that God's word must be obeyed exactly even by a faithful leader. Great honor and revelation of God's glory increase responsibility, so that failure is more serious, and the more distinguished the offender the firmer the judgment and the more certain the punishment.

His experience warns that wrongdoing and dishonoring God have serious consequences, especially for one responsible to teach and set an example. It teaches also that trials should drive people to call on God, who answers by revealing His greatness and power so that faith and trust rest in Him alone.
