Deuteronomy 30:6
And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
The circumcising of the heart and the heart of the seed is the Lord's own work from beginning to end, His converting power changing parents and children themselves so that they can love Him. That love is love with all the heart and with all the soul, with the whole being, not with only a part of the heart. This change of heart belongs with the word being very near, in the mouth and in the heart, for genuine faith takes hold of Christ personally, sets the affections of the soul upon Him, and forms a character shaped by God, so that the promise describes a living transformation and not mere agreement of the mind.
Because the work is God's, no sinner needs to remain unsaved, since Christ died and rose again for justification and the sinner may accept the forgiveness He has promised. The promise that thou mayest live is sure, meaning fitness to live in this world and fitness to enter heaven. That life is eternal life, an eternal weight of glory that no language can describe.
The promise therefore calls fathers and mothers to repent of harsh, denunciatory, overbearing anger, and of careless, overindulgent, selfishly indifferent neglect that allows children to disobey. Both tempers unfit children for this world and for the next. When parents repent, God exerts His converting power to circumcise their hearts and the hearts of their seed, producing a decided change in the home school and a sanctified atmosphere in the home. Hearts are refined and purified to be fit for Jesus to dwell in, noble unselfishness appears that blesses the church, and repentance brings a transformed home.
