Deuteronomy 31:30

And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.

Moses spoke the words of this song aloud in the hearing of the whole congregation of Israel, continuing until he had finished it. The song magnified God's greatness and the perfection of His work, His justice and truth, and His care for Israel, thus summarizing His dealings with them. At the same time it exposed their corruption and unfaithfulness, foretelling their future departure from God, followed by swift calamity and judgment without remedy for the disobedient.

Israel learned and sang such songs during the wilderness journeys. Their singing made the way more cheerful. These songs entertained the travelers while instructing and encouraging families and the young.
