Deuteronomy 32:38
Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.
The verse belongs to the song Moses was commanded to preserve so that Israel would keep God's dealings with His people in remembrance and recount those dealings from generation to generation. That preserved song was to furnish the instruction by which Israel could teach its own history to its children. It challenges the people to call on the gods they had trusted when calamity comes. Those gods are described as eating the fat of their sacrifices and drinking the wine of their drink offerings, and they are bidden to rise up and help and be a protection. The challenge exposes those gods as powerless and unable to rise up or to protect those who sacrificed to them. As part of that song the verse also foreshadows future events, including the final victory of the faithful when Christ comes again in power and glory.
