Deuteronomy 33:20

And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head.

Deuteronomy 33:20 belongs to Moses' farewell blessing on the twelve tribes in Deuteronomy 33. That blessing stands together with the song in Deuteronomy 32 as the two songs concerning Israel that close Deuteronomy, just before the account of Moses' death in Deuteronomy 34.

The tribal blessings contain prophecies concerning the tribes. They portray the fruits of each tribe's character and are rich in symbols, historical references, petitions, and expressions of triumphant faith and joyful hope. The blessing parallels Jacob's dying prophecy and is to be read and compared with it tribe by tribe. The song of blessing was taught to the people to sing through later generations, recalling God's mercy and goodness.
