Deuteronomy 33:22

And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s whelp: he shall leap from Bashan.

The saying about Dan belongs to one of the marvelous songs of Moses concerning Israel that close the book of Deuteronomy. It stands within the two beautiful poems in Deuteronomy 32 and 33. In the order of Deuteronomy these poems come after Moses' final charge. They come before the record of the death of Moses, the man of God.

It is part of Moses' prophecy concerning the tribes of Israel. More fully, it is part of Moses' farewell blessings on the twelve tribes. Those blessings portray through symbols and historical references the fruits and outcomes of each tribe's character.
