Moses Blesses the Tribes Before His Deathby emmanuel_higgins

Deuteronomy 33:26

There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.

This verse opens Moses' final blessing on Israel, spoken by inspiration as his last instructions in a powerful, prophetic closing address that gave a separate blessing to the tribes, in which Simeon is not mentioned. It belonged to a song set to verse and taught to the children of Israel to sing with musical instruments as they traveled through the wilderness. That singing kept the people cheerful instead of murmuring and relieved the monotony of the pilgrim journey. It gave lessons that were entertaining, profitable and instructive, encouraging the youth and entire families.

The verse declares there is no God and no other god like Israel's God, the God of Jeshurun, meaning Israel, who rides across the heavens and skies in majesty and excellency to help His people. By riding upon heaven to help, God uses the power of heaven in His majesty for His people, and His majesty and power are Israel's strength. The verse gives assurance of His willingness to save to the uttermost those who place their trust fully in Him. As He delivered Israel from bondage in Egypt, so He would work mightily to establish them in the Promised Land and place them at the head of the nations of the earth.

The verse also declares the excellency, honor and security of Israel, which would ever continue as they obeyed God and relied on and took hold of His strength. Together with the verses that follow it, the verse promises the eternal God as refuge with everlasting arms underneath, thrusting out enemies. It promises Israel safe dwelling alone in a fruitful land of grain and wine with dew from heaven, happy as a people saved, shielded and armed by the Lord.
