Deuteronomy 33:3
Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words. Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.
The verse belongs to Moses' final blessing, which makes no reference to Simeon. Israel had been degraded by long bondage in Egypt and needed to be impressed with a sense of God's power and majesty. The giving of the law at Mount Sinai revealed God no less as a God of love and showed His love for the tribes and for the people.
He came down with ten thousand holy angels and gave a fiery, blazing law from His right hand. He holds all His holy ones in His hand in His care, has them sit down and gather reverently at His feet, and gives every one His words to receive and learn. He made the speaking of His law a scene of awful grandeur in keeping with its exalted character, choosing a mountain in the desert untouched by human hands, whose vast rugged heights speak of eternal endurance and majesty, to impress reverence and the sacredness of His requirements.
He gathered Israel there to declare His holy law with His own voice, with His glory concealed so they could hear without being consumed, making finite people feel their ignorance and weakness before the infinite, omnipotent, eternal God. Sitting at God's feet with each one receiving His words is what true learners do, and it is the work carried on in the schools of the prophets. Even while kept in His hand and care, people may face earthly trials permitted for reasons they cannot know until they reach the golden gate.
