Deuteronomy 33:9
Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant. Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.
Levi's loyalty to God took precedence over family ties, for the Levites did not side with their relatives when they were called to uphold God's word and keep His covenant. That fidelity, shown when the other tribes apostatized, secured Levi's appointment to the sanctuary service. Through this faithfulness Jacob's curse of scattering upon Levi was changed into a blessing.
