Deuteronomy 34:8
And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.
Because of his mistake Moses could not enter the promised land, and he went up the mountain to die. Joshua took Moses' place as leader. The children of Israel wept for and mourned Moses thirty days in the plains of Moab.
The thirty days were devoted to special services honoring his memory. After those thirty days, the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. After his death the people recognized more fully the value of his wise counsel, tenderness, faith, and teaching. Repeated remembrance of Moses and of God's commandments kept their history, victories, and responsibilities before them.
