Deuteronomy 6:19

To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.

The verse was given through Moses to Israel as they prepared to possess the land, teaching them to keep and do the Lord's commands, and it belongs to the instruction in Deuteronomy 6:13-25 about obedience to God's law. It is part of Deuteronomy 4-8 setting forth what God required of His ancient people in order to be a holy people unto Himself. It is part of the chapter's instruction to heed the Lord's commands.

The verse promises that the Lord would cast out and drive all Israel's enemies from before them, as He had spoken and promised. That promise is connected with keeping and diligently keeping His commandments and doing what is right and good before the Lord. It is connected also with living well and possessing the promised land sworn to their ancestors, with doing what is right and good leading to taking possession. The promised removal of enemies is part of the blessings attached to obedience to God's statutes, with obedience to what He specified bringing blessing and prosperity.

The chapter and its lesson are to be read carefully and studied with profit now to understand that requirement and to obey what God has directed. This present study is urged because the world is nearing God's great final review when all must stand before the Judge of all the earth to answer for their deeds. The present is the time of investigation when every character will have been investigated and every case decided for eternity before that day.
