Ecclesiastes 10:19

A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

Money is credited with answering all things because it is regarded as having power to sway influence toward its possessor. In the judgment of some who hold wealth, that power is so decisive that good character by itself counts for little if it is unaccompanied by earthly possessions. The saying therefore exposes how riches are thought to command deference apart from moral worth.
