Ecclesiastes 12:2

While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

The darkening of the sun and the light and the moon and the stars, with the clouds returning after the rain, pictures the coming days of old age and decline. It is a figure of advancing years drawing near with their loss and diminishment. That old age is a time when the light of life fades and its pleasure grows dim. It is when life's pleasures and powers fade together, and strength gives way.

For that reason the verse urges remembering the Creator before those days come. The warning belongs especially to the young, and to others as well, to turn to Him in time. It is to be done while life is still pleasant and strength remains, before the fading arrives.
