Ecclesiastes 2:16
For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool. For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.
Earthly wisdom secures no more lasting remembrance than folly, for the wise and the fool are alike eventually forgotten. What now exists will all be forgotten in the days to come, so neither state preserves a name forever. The wise man dies in the same way as the fool, making death shared by both without distinction. This common oblivion and common death belong to Solomon's discovery of emptiness in making achievement and pleasure life's highest good.
