I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
There is no lasting good contained in earthly goods in themselves. The real good to be found in human life is for a person to rejoice and to do good during life. Earthly goods properly serve that end, since their benefit is to enable people to rejoice and to do good while they live.
This joyful life of doing good was the Creator's purpose for people. It was meant to be lived under God's government. There people were to dwell in companionship with God and to learn His requirements.
