Ecclesiastes 3:8

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:8 stands within a longer sequence that assigns different activities their proper times. Talking, weeping, and singing are therefore not to be mixed with important duties nor permitted to displace them. Singing has its fitting place when the thinking and work of the day are finished, and only when it does not lead to careless neglect.
