Ecclesiastes 5:1
Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
Keeping the foot when going to the house of God is a call to reverence in coming to worship Him. That reverence means entering the sanctuary with sobriety and reverence and a true appreciation of the sacredness of eternal things. It includes care in how one appears in God's house, for dusty, dirty, disordered clothing shows little respect for the Most High. His house is like an audience chamber, with heavenly angels in attendance.
The place dedicated to God should be set apart and not used as a room where worldly business is transacted. When children assemble to worship in a room used during the week for a school or a storeroom, their devotional thoughts become mingled with thoughts of their studies and of things that happened during the week. The education and training of youth must therefore exalt sacred things and encourage pure devotion to God in His house. Parents must not only teach but command their children to enter God's house with sobriety and reverence.
