Ecclesiastes 5:10

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

He that loves silver is not satisfied with silver, and he that loves abundance and increase is not satisfied with more, and this endless, unfulfilled craving for still more is vanity. Love of wealth cannot bring satisfaction, for love of silver or of growing abundance leaves the heart unsatisfied and ever wanting more rather than content with what is possessed. Loving silver or craving ever more wealth cannot satisfy the heart and soul, but leaves the person longing rather than filled.

Trusting in gold and wealth may bring apparent prosperity for a time, yet it cannot secure lasting good and in the end leaves a person unsatisfied and brings sorrow. Craving more wealth remains unfulfilled and is vanity, warning against greed for gold and against pursuing riches through speculation in lands and mines. Love of silver or abundance cannot be satisfied by gaining more, warning against seeking wealth through bribery or unfair dealing and calling for keeping the soul untainted.

Opening the heart to Christ's righteousness rather than pursuing material gain is necessary for a healthy Christian experience, since such craving for silver and increase is vanity. More silver or greater abundance does not fill the soul, for riches and worldly honor cannot provide the divine assurance and spiritual hope people need, so wealthy people also need the gospel.
