Ecclesiastes 6:2
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
There is an evil under the sun in which a man is given riches, wealth, and honor so fully that he wants nothing for his soul of all that he desires. Yet he is not given power to eat of them and enjoy the means of enjoyment provided, but a stranger eats them instead. Wealth, possessions, and honor cannot by themselves secure happiness. Such unenjoyed riches are vanity and a grievous evil, leaving their owner anxious and miserable rather than secure.
Young people are to learn this lesson from the fate of the rich man who cannot enjoy his abundance. They are to seek instead the good part that remains sure. That portion endures while other things grow worse.
